Invitations

The world of invitations has been muddied a bit nowadays.  It is not unusual to receive a phone call inviting you (last minute) to a fancy affair.  Is this proper?  No.   Should you go anyway?  Of course, if you have the time and clothes for the occasion. 

Here we will deal with the proper use of invitations, how they should be made, and how to accept or decline.  Please let me know if you have a special situation that is not covered within this section.
